Nantahala

National Forest - North Carolina, United States

The largest of North Carolina's four national forests, Nantahala encompasses 531,148 acres in the mountains and valleys of southwestern North Carolina. Named for the Cherokee word meaning 'land of the noon day sun', the forest features elevations ranging from 5,800 feet at Lone Bald to 1,200 feet along the Hiwassee River.
