Greenland National Parks

Island nature reserve about 22km south of Nuuk in outer Godthåbsfjord area. Contains very old geological deposits (approximately 3.85 billion years old), possibly oldest sedimentary rocks and evidence of life on Earth.

Consists of a shallow marine bay, a coastal foreland and a valley. Located on Disko Island.

Nature reserve protecting unique flora, fauna and cultural interests of the Maniitsoq area.

Situated next to western edge of Greenland ice sheet. Diverse topography with extensive grass steppes, swamp, marshland, numerous lakes. Very important staging and moulting area for Greenland white-fronted goose.

High Arctic East Greenland site. Protects internationally important populations of moulting pink-footed geese and barnacle geese. Extensive tundra area with several rivers and numerous shallow lakes.

Located within Northeast Greenland National Park. Important moulting area for pink-footed goose. Extensive lowland area with dwarf scrub heaths, grassland, marshes, and numerous ponds.

Protected since 2000. Features unique ikaite mineral columns (not limestone) - rare formations found nowhere else. At least 938 individual columns up to 20m in height. Protected by Greenland authorities and UNEP.

Northeast Greenland National Park is the world's largest national park and the northernmost national park on Earth. It protects a vast wilderness of ice sheets, fjords, and tundra that is home to diverse Arctic wildlife including musk oxen, polar bears, walruses, and numerous bird species. The park covers nearly half of Greenland's total land area and includes large sections of the Greenland ice sheet.

Comprises three wide valleys with extensive freshwater wetlands. 12th Ramsar site designated in Greenland.
