Wilderness Reserve - Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada
One of North America's most southerly unspoiled barrens, the Avalon Wilderness Reserve protects 1,070 km² of pristine wilderness featuring diverse barrens and forests. The reserve is home to the Avalon Migratory woodland caribou herd, the most southerly caribou population in Canada. No developed facilities, marked trails, or services exist within the reserve, offering a true backcountry wilderness experience for hiking, canoeing, skiing, and wildlife observation. Access via two unpaved roads is restricted to four-wheel drive vehicles with high clearance.
