Provincial Park - Quebec, Canada
Managed by Parcs Nunavik. Located on the Ungava Plateau, 100km southwest of Kangiqsujuaq. Centerpiece is the Pingualuit meteorite crater, formed 1.4 million years ago. The crater is 3.44km diameter, rising 160m above tundra, and 400m deep. Contains Pingualuk Lake (267m deep), one of the purest lakes in the world with water that renews only once every 330 years. One of the youngest and most well-preserved meteorite craters on Earth. Features Arctic tundra with four rare/threatened plant species. Home to the Leaf River caribou herd (hundreds of thousands).
