National Park - South Australia, Australia
This globally significant park in the northern Flinders Ranges protects the world's richest Ediacaran fossil site, containing evidence of Earth's earliest complex animal life from 550 million years ago. Over 40 species have been recorded, including specimens named after geologist Reg Sprigg who first discovered them in the 1940s. The Ediacaran Period was named after this location - the first geological period named for a Southern Hemisphere site. Guided tours only are permitted due to the fossils' sensitivity.
