Provincial Park - British Columbia, Canada
This wilderness park in the Peace region features fast flowing rivers, crystal clear lakes and surrounding mountains that offer scenic viewing and backcountry experiences. The park protects significant old-growth spruce forests and diverse wildlife habitat within the Rocky Mountains' Hart Ranges, including populations of mountain goats, grizzly bears, and the provincially rare bull trout. The area is notable for internationally significant Triassic Period fossils, particularly primitive ichthyosaurs found nowhere else on Earth. Visitors can access the backcountry cabin at Wapiti Lake via an 18 km hiking trail that follows the Wapiti River, making it suitable primarily for experienced backpackers.
