It was renamed Queen Elizabeth Provincial Park on August 1, 1978, to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II's tour of Alberta. The park protects diverse boreal forest habitats and offers excellent wildlife viewing, particularly for birds with over 140 species recorded. Features include shallow wetlands ideal for waterfowl, shady boreal forest trails, and a dedicated bird viewing platform.
