Provincial Park - British Columbia, Canada
This wilderness park contains spectacular scenery and outstanding historical, cultural and spiritual values. It protects the entire Stein River watershed and preserves the First Nation's history of the area. Transitioning from the dry interior to the wetter Coastal Mountains, the valley encompasses diverse ecological zones including open pine forests, cedar groves, alpine tundra, and glaciers. The park covers 107,191 hectares and features the Stein River with two significant gorges, several waterfalls, and numerous tributaries cascading from glaciers, tarn lakes, and alpine meadows. Stein Valley is unique as the only park in North America in close proximity to an urban center with an intact suite of top predators including Grizzly, wolf, cougar, wolverine and lynx. The park is co-managed through a partnership between the Lytton First Nation and the government of British Columbia.
