Territorial Park - Nunavut, Canada
Located on Qikiqtan Island (also known as Kekerten) in Cumberland Sound, about 50 km south of Pangnirtung. The name 'Kekerten' comes from 19th-century whalers attempting to pronounce 'Qikiqtan', the island's original Inuktitut name. Site of a whaling station established in 1840 by William Penny, with whaling ships first wintering here in 1852 and buildings added in 1857. The park preserves the history of Scottish whalers and Inuit who lived and worked together for decades. Features a boardwalk trail connecting historical points of interest. Marine life includes belugas, narwhals, bowhead whales, ringed seals, and harp seals.
