Whanganui

National Park - Manawatu-Wanganui, New Zealand

Whanganui National Park protects the largest remaining area of lowland forest in the North Island, surrounding the upper Whanganui River. The park is famous for the Bridge to Nowhere, a concrete bridge built in 1936 to connect an isolated farming settlement that was later abandoned. The park provides habitat for native species including brown kiwi and blue duck (whio), and the Whanganui River Journey is one of New Zealand's Great Walks.
