Wilderness Protection Area - South Australia, Australia
This chain of remote islands off the Eyre Peninsula's west coast protects critical habitat for Australian sea lions, with eight breeding colonies and several haul-out sites. Proclaimed in 2011, the wilderness encompasses islands from Blefuscu to St Francis Island, supporting endemic southern brown bandicoots found nowhere else. An Important Bird Area for short-tailed shearwaters with nearly 900,000 breeding pairs, the archipelago also hosts white-faced storm-petrels and significant populations of pied oystercatchers.
