Located 100 km southwest of Edmonton in a transition zone between aspen parkland, boreal forest, and foothills, this ecologically rich area supports 266 plant species, 154 bird species, and 22 mammal species. The lake provides important feeding habitat for great blue heron and nesting habitat for common loon, red-necked grebe, and ring-necked duck.
