About Penang Hill

The Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve (Bukit Bendera) was designated by UNESCO in 2021 as Malaysia's third biosphere reserve, spanning 12,481 hectares of state forest reserves, the Penang Botanic Gardens, and coastal and marine ecosystems linking hill to sea. Its old-growth dipterocarp forest supports endangered mammals and migratory birds.
