About La Saline

Natural area in the boreal forest of northeastern Alberta preserving Saline Lake, a saline oxbow lake adjacent to the Athabasca River north of Fort McMurray. The lake is the region's most productive for waterfowl and an important stop for migrating birds. Features large tufa deposits around salt springs on the southeastern shore, rare hypersaline vegetation on the tufa mound, and rare brackish and saline plant communities in salt marshes. Access is primarily from the Athabasca River with no roads or developed trails.
