About Steese
A 1.2-million-acre BLM National Conservation Area northeast of Fairbanks, protecting boreal uplands, the Birch Creek Wild and Scenic River, and important caribou habitat. Designated by ANILCA in 1980, it offers backcountry hiking, river floating, and hunting.
