About North Cooking Lake

North Cooking Lake Natural Area features distinctive 'knob and kettle' topography with steep-sided hills and wetland depressions. Aspen forests dominate upland regions, while depressions contain willow shrublands, sedge wetland and black spruce peatland. The wetland features support diverse waterfowl including blue-winged teal and northern shoveler. The area's aspen forests and stands of paper birch provide habitat for deer, moose, snowshoe hare and weasel.
