About Yaquina Head
A basalt headland jutting into the Pacific near Newport, Yaquina Head is a BLM-managed Outstanding Natural Area known for its 1873 lighthouse, rich intertidal tidepools, and large nesting colonies of common murres and other seabirds. Formed by ancient Columbia River Basalt lava flows, it offers whale-watching, bird-watching, and short coastal trails through Sitka spruce and Douglas fir.
