Beltzville State Park encompasses 2,972 acres in Franklin and Towamensing townships, Carbon County, Pennsylvania, situated in the southern foothills of the Pocono Mountains. The park was developed around Beltzville Lake, a 949-acre reservoir created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a flood control project on Pohopoco Creek. The first inhabitants of the area now encompassed by Beltzville State Park were the Lenape people who lived along Pohopoco Creek. After the infamous Walking Purchase of 1737 reached its northern terminus a few miles northwest of the park, early European settlers arrived and eventually established the farming community of Big Creek Valley. For generations, families farmed the valley's fertile bottomlands, building homes, mills, and community structures. Evidence of this agricultural heritage remains visible along the park's trails. The construction of Beltzville Dam required the relocation of valley residents, with the community of Big Creek Valley vacated in 1966. Historical remains including a gristmill foundation and mill pond can be observed along the Saw Mill Trail.

Beltzville State Park's origins lie in the 1965 authorization of the Beltzville Dam project by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for flood control on Pohopoco Creek. Pohopoco Creek, which feeds the lake, provides excellent trout fishing with regular stocking by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. The beach area offers swimming access during summer months with changing facilities and seasonal lifeguards. Beltzville Lake provides outstanding boating opportunities, with boat launches and rental facilities available. The 19.8 miles of shoreline offer numerous secluded coves for fishing and nature observation.

Beltzville State Park offers comprehensive day-use facilities for visitors. The beach area includes changing facilities, restrooms, and concessions during summer season. Multiple boat launches provide access to Beltzville Lake, and boat rentals are available for visitors without their own watercraft. While the park does not offer camping within its boundaries, nearby options are available in the surrounding Pocono region. Beltzville is located approximately 75 miles north of Philadelphia and 45 miles north of Allentown, making it easily accessible for day trips from major population centers via Routes 209 and 903.
