About Reberce
Reberce is a forest nature reserve in Bircza commune, Przemyśl County, in the Pogórze Przemyskie foothills of south-eastern Poland. It was created in 1996 to protect a fragment of fir forest that keeps the features of natural woodland, and covers roughly 190 hectares[1]. It lies inside the Pogórze Przemyskie Landscape Park.
Wildlife Ecosystems
Amphibians are a notable feature: the reserve is at the northern edge of the alpine newt's range, and the fire-bellied toad, common toad, European tree frog and fire salamander also live here[1]. Birds include the common buzzard, sparrowhawk, lesser spotted eagle, eagle owl and tawny owl, and the mammals include roe deer, red deer and wild boar.
Flora Ecosystems
Carpathian beech forest is the dominant habitat, with patches of oak-hornbeam forest, alder riparian forest and non-forest communities. Besides fir, the main trees are beech, sycamore and spruce, and about 300 vascular plant taxa have been recorded; ground plants include primrose, ivy and periwinkle[1].
Geology
The reserve lies in the Pogórze Przemyskie, a hilly foothill belt at the edge of the Carpathians[1]. The landscape is one of rounded, forested hills and stream valleys.
Climate And Weather
The Carpathian foothills of south-eastern Poland have a temperate climate with cold winters, often with lasting snow, and warm, fairly wet summers. The damp forest and stream-side alder woods suit the amphibians recorded here.
Human History
The reserve is spread across the village lands of Wola Korzeniecka, Łomna and Krajna, near the small town of Bircza[1]. It lies in the Pogórze Przemyskie, a foothill region of the Przemyśl area in Poland's far south-east.
Park History
Reberce was established in 1996 by a ministerial order of 11 December 1995 (Monitor Polski 1996 no. 5, item 55), as a phytocenotic reserve for forest plant communities. It is managed by the Bircza Forest District and sits within the Ostoja Przemyska and Pogórze Przemyskie Natura 2000 sites[1].
Major Trails And Attractions
A 5.9 km red tourist trail runs between Reberce and Bircza as part of the Przemyśl–Sanok trail, with about 30 m of total climb and 231 m of descent in the direction listed[2]. The attraction is the old fir and beech forest.
Visitor Facilities And Travel
The red trail links Reberce with Bircza, where lodging is available, as are Krasiczyn, Olszanica, Dubiecko and Łomna nearby[2]. No facilities inside the reserve are described.
Conservation And Sustainability
The reserve protects near-natural fir forest and its amphibians, including the alpine newt at its range edge, within a landscape park and two Natura 2000 sites[1]. It is administered by the Bircza Forest District.
