About Moeyungyi Wetland
Moeyungyi Wetland Wildlife Sanctuary is a freshwater reservoir and seasonal marsh in central Bago Region, established in 1988 and designated as Myanmar's first Ramsar Wetland of International Importance in 2004. Lying between Bago and Nyaunglebin across Waw and Daik-U townships, the sanctuary covers roughly 104 square kilometers of open water, reed beds, and floodplain that swell during the monsoon and contract in the dry season. It is one of Myanmar's most significant sites for migratory and resident waterbirds, hosting tens of thousands of waterfowl including bar-headed geese, sarus cranes, and numerous duck and wader species. Managed by the Forest Department's Nature and Wildlife Conservation Division, it is a popular destination for birdwatching and boat tours.
