One of the largest marine protected areas on Earth and a UNESCO World Heritage Site (inscribed 2010), PIPA spans eight coral islands plus submerged reefs and seamounts in the central Pacific, conserving a near-pristine oceanic coral archipelago ecosystem with roughly 800 known species.
