Salamonie River

State Forest - Indiana, United States

Established in the mid-1930s as a demonstration riverside forest for reclamation of eroded land along the Salamonie River. Named from the Native American word O-sah-mo-nee meaning yellow paint, after bloodroot plants abundant along the river. Features historic CCC-built Hominy Ridge Shelter House.
