About Opal

Located 15 km northwest of Redwater, this 620-hectare natural area encompasses sandy ridges and depressions in the Boreal Forest Dry Mixedwood region. The diverse vegetation includes open jack pine-lichen forests on uplands, aspen groves, wet sedge-grass meadows, cattail-ringed ponds, and black spruce fens that provide excellent wildlife habitat.
