About Big Pamir

A high-altitude wildlife reserve (Pamir-i-Buzurg) of roughly 577 km2 in the eastern Wakhan Corridor, first set aside in the late 1970s to protect the famous Marco Polo sheep. The U-shaped grassy valley also supports snow leopard, ibex, and brown bear, and is reached on a multi-day trek from Sarhad-e Broghil. Note: limited active management; an Important Bird Area within the broader Wakhan landscape.
