About October Mountain

October Mountain State Forest is the largest state forest in Massachusetts, encompassing 16,500 acres in the central Berkshires. The forest provides extensive backcountry recreation and critical wildlife habitat.

Wildlife Ecosystems

The massive forest supports black bear, moose, bobcat, and fisher. The diverse habitats include beaver ponds and forested wetlands. Breeding birds include species requiring large unfragmented forests.

Flora Ecosystems
