The forest supports white-tailed deer, coyotes, wild turkeys, and various woodland birds. Wetlands provide amphibian breeding habitat. The forest block provides habitat connectivity between larger natural areas in the region.

Flora Ecosystems

Mixed oak-pine forest predominates with typical species including white pine, red oak, and red maple. Wetland areas support red maple swamps and shrub wetlands. The forest reflects the transition between coastal and inland plant communities.

Human History

Indigenous peoples utilized this area before European colonization. Colonial farmers cleared portions for agriculture, with forest regrowth following farm abandonment. The forest preserves land in a region with significant colonial history.

Park History

The state acquired the forest to preserve open space as development pressure increased in the lower Merrimack Valley. The forest provides recreation and wildlife habitat in a growing suburban region.

Major Trails And Attractions

Trails provide hiking and mountain biking opportunities through diverse forest habitats. The quiet setting offers nature observation. Cross-country skiing is popular in winter.

Visitor Facilities And Travel

Parking areas serve the forest from Georgetown and Rowley access points. No developed facilities exist. The forest is accessible from Route 133 and local roads.
