About Birch Point Provincial Park
Birch Point Provincial Park is a small protected area situated on Buffalo Bay at Lake of the Woods, approximately 160 kilometers southeast of Winnipeg and 35 km north of Sprague on PR 308. The park falls within the Whitemouth eco-district of the Lake of the Woods ecoregion, part of the broader Boreal Shield Ecozone. The landscape reflects glacial history, with layers of glacial till deposited across the area, and outcrops of bedrock are common. The vegetation comprises wetland areas with black spruce and tamarack in poorly drained locations, and drier mixed forests with jack pine, trembling aspen, paper birch, white spruce, eastern white cedar, black ash, white elm, red pine, and eastern white pine. The campground has 26 basic sites in a beautiful setting, and features a boat launch with access to excellent fishing for walleye and northern pike.
