Achanakmar

Achanakmar Wildlife Sanctuary, also designated as Achanakmar Tiger Reserve, protects diverse forest ecosystems in the Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh, India. Established as a sanctuary in 1975 and elevated to tiger reserve status in 2009, the protected area encompasses approximately 914 square kilometers of sal and mixed deciduous forests. The sanctuary is part of an important wildlife corridor connecting tiger populations in central India, making it crucial for maintaining genetic connectivity. Wildlife includes Bengal tigers, leopards, sloth bears, gaur (Indian bison), wild dogs, and four-horned antelopes.
