About Bamyan Plateau
Afghanistan's fifth protected area, gazetted in 2019 and covering roughly 4,200 km2 of green rolling hills, remote valleys, and steep canyons in the Hindu Kush north of Bamyan town. Managed by NEPA, it shelters the endangered Persian leopard and species found nowhere else in the country, including the southwest Eurasian badger and boreal owl.
