About Northwest Passage Trail
A territorial park in Gjoa Haven consisting of six historical sites on King William Island related to Northwest Passage exploration. The trail commemorates the explorers who sought the Northwest Passage, including Roald Amundsen who successfully navigated the passage from 1903-1906 while wintering at Gjoa Haven. The sites preserve artifacts and history from these expeditions and the interactions with local Inuit communities who provided crucial survival knowledge.
