About Munga-Thirri-Simpson Desert
Australia's largest national park at 3.6 million hectares spans the heart of the Simpson Desert, one of the world's finest examples of parallel dune desert. Created in 2021 by combining the former conservation park and regional reserve, this remote wilderness features hundreds of parallel red sand dunes stretching to the horizon. The park overlies part of the Great Artesian Basin and is closed during summer due to extreme temperatures. Bush camping is permitted along public access tracks with no facilities provided.
