About Lake Gairdner
Situated north of the Gawler Ranges, this park protects Australia's third largest salt lake, stretching over 160km long with salt up to 1.2 metres thick in places. The brilliant white salt lake, surrounded by red sand dunes and containing over 200 islands, creates a surreal landscape prized by photographers. The lake's exceptional flatness makes it one of the world's premier locations for land speed record attempts. The park also contains the historic Glenloth Gold Battery Site on Lake Harris.
