About Herschel Island - Qikiqtaruk Territorial Park

Qikiqtaruk Territorial Park is the first territorial park in the territory of Yukon. The name means 'our island' in Inuvialuktun. The park comprises the entire Herschel Island and is notable for hosting a large colony of black guillemots and serves as an important site for traditional Inuvialuit activities. Located 5 km north of the Yukon coast in the Beaufort Sea, 24 hours of daylight in summer. Established following the Inuvialuit Final Agreement. Access by plane from Inuvik or by boat. Nearest city is Inuvik, NWT
