About Haley Lake Migratory Bird Sanctuary
Haley Lake Migratory Bird Sanctuary on southwestern Nova Scotia protects up to 1,000 migratory birds during fall, with Canada geese and American black ducks as primary species. The sanctuary is notable for hosting the only known ground-nesting great blue heron colony in the Maritimes, active since 1944. Rocky granite-lined shores and shallow waters provide essential habitat.
