Pacifico Mexicano Profundo is the largest protected natural area in Mexico, encompassing an extraordinary 43.6 million hectares of deep-sea marine environment along Mexico's Pacific coast. Decreed on December 7, 2016, the reserve protects oceanic waters deeper than 800 meters below mean sea level off the coasts of Colima, Jalisco, and Michoacan, extending further along the coasts of Nayarit, Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Chiapas.
