National Wildlife Area - Ontario, Canada
Located 20km southeast of Picton on Lake Ontario, this 546-hectare sanctuary is renowned for concentrating spectacular numbers of migratory songbirds during spring and fall. Approximately 300 bird species have been recorded, making it one of Ontario's premier birding destinations. The diverse landscape encompasses forests, grasslands, wetlands, and Lake Ontario shoreline with gravel beaches perfect for swimming. The Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory operates within the wildlife area as a Canadian Migration Monitoring Network station, conducting annual bird banding research since 1995. Twenty-nine species at risk occur here, including Whip-poor-will, Red-headed Woodpecker, and Eastern Meadowlark. Visitors can enjoy interactive programs in spring and fall, explore trails, observe birdwatching and wildlife, and access the boat launch. Designated as part of the Prince Edward County South Shore Important Bird Area, this site also supports migrating bats and Monarch butterflies.
