About Wyrrabalong

Wyrrabalong National Park is a coastal park on the Central Coast of New South Wales, located between Gosford and The Entrance protecting headlands and beaches between Long Jetty and Bateau Bay. Covering approximately 505 hectares, the park protects significant areas of Hawkesbury Sandstone heath, coastal scrub, and beach communities on the rocky headlands and coastal terrain south of The Entrance. The park provides accessible coastal bushland and beach recreation for the large Central Coast population.

Wildlife Ecosystems

Wyrrabalong supports coastal sandstone wildlife. Koalas are present in the eucalypt woodland. Eastern grey kangaroos and common wallaroos use the heath and woodland. Little penguins nest in rocky burrows on the headlands. Diverse heath birds including honeyeaters and parrots are present. Rock platforms provide excellent habitat for invertebrates and seabirds.

Flora Ecosystems

Hawkesbury Sandstone heath with banksias, scribbly gums, and diverse wildflowers dominates the headlands. Coastal scrub with tea-tree and coastal wattle occupies sheltered positions. The heath communities feature diverse orchids and spring wildflower displays.

Geology

The park is underlain by Triassic Hawkesbury Sandstone, exposed as the rocky headlands and rock platforms characteristic of the Central Coast coastline.

Warm temperate coastal climate. Annual rainfall approximately 1,100 millimetres. Warm summers, mild winters.

Human History

The Darkinjung and Awabakal peoples are the traditional custodians of the Central Coast.
