About Wooroloo

Wooroloo Regional Park is a 994-hectare bushland reserve on the Darling Scarp northeast of Perth, protecting jarrah-marri forest and heath in the Mundaring-Swan View area. The park contributes to the Perth Hills corridor of forested reserves connecting the metropolitan area to the broader Darling Range. It is managed by DBCA in partnership with local government.

Wildlife Ecosystems

Wooroloo supports jarrah forest fauna: western grey kangaroos, brush wallabies, short-beaked echidnas, quendas, and woodland birds including Carnaby's black-cockatoo. The park provides wildlife connectivity in the Perth Hills reserve network. Tiger snakes and bobtail lizards inhabit the forest understorey.

Flora Ecosystems

Jarrah (E. marginata) and marri (C. calophylla) form the dominant forest. Banksia and proteaceous understorey provides habitat for wildlife and spring wildflowers. The park is within the Southwest Australian Floristic Region.

Geology

Darling Plateau — deeply weathered Archaean granite-gneiss with laterite profiles. The Wooroloo Brook drains through the scarp country.

Climate And Weather

Mediterranean climate with 700–900 mm annual rainfall in the Darling Range. Summer fire risk is moderate to high.

Human History

Wooroloo lies within Whadjuk Noongar boodja. The Darling Range was a regular hunting and gathering area for Noongar people.

Park History

Wooroloo Regional Park was established to protect remnant jarrah forest in the northeastern Perth Hills and provide wildlife connectivity with adjacent reserves.

Major Trails And Attractions

Bushwalking through jarrah forest. Spring wildflower observation. Wildlife viewing.

Visitor Facilities And Travel

Located northeast of Perth near Wooroloo. Access via Great Northern Highway area. Minimal facilities. Free entry. Perth and Swan Valley provide nearby services.

Conservation And Sustainability

Phytophthora cinnamomi dieback, invasive weeds, and fox predation are the primary challenges. Wildfire risk requires management through prescribed burning.
